About us
Pioneering Innovation & Excellence in Textile Research Since 1950
Conceived after the independence, The Synthetic & Art Silk Mills’ Research Association (SASMIRA), a co-operative endeavour in textile research, has become a reality through joint efforts of numerous institutions and dedicated individuals. At that period the pioneers of silk and art silk industry, composed of large number of small units with a rare foresight mooted the proposal for creating a co-operative research organisation. This proposal was supported by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and other Government agencies that culminated into establishment of SASMIRA, earlier known as Silk And Art Silk Mills’ Research Association. At present, SASMIRA is an approved body to the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India. SASMIRA entered into its diamond jubilee in the year 2025.

Since its inception, SASMIRA has evolved from primarily testing silk and art silk materials to addressing the dynamic and diverse needs of the man-made textile industry. Testing & Consultancy Services

- SASMIRA laboratory is accredited by National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) in accordance with the international standard ISO/IEC 17025 – 2017 for Mechanical, Chemical and Biological evaluation of textiles. SASMIRA laboratories are also Accredited for Testing of Toys and Hazardous and Restricted Chemicals under accreditation from NABL.
- SASMIRA is accredited for carrying out Proficiency Testing for parameters in Chemical, Mechanical and Biological Testing as per ISO/IEC 17043-2010
- SASMIRA provides testing services to the international clients through its prestigious certification from “International Antimicrobial Council (IAC)”.
- SASMIRA is empanelled under Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) of Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) for testing of Technical Textile Products. SASMIRA is providing testing services to the Industry for QCO issued products.
